Dorothy lee Roberts 1907-1991

I will always remember my Grandmother with love and tenderness. I never knew her to hurt anyone. I never heard an unkind word pass her lips. Well, she did warn me to watch out for male drivers who wore hats!

The last long drive that I took with my Grandmother was up to the Skagit valley to see the tulip fields. My fiance (Julie, now my wife), and Dorothy sat in the car while I did my thing with the camera.

I loved going on drives with her, it was very peaceful.

Dorothy was born in Aberdeen, Washington. She was the daughter of a lumber inspector. Along with two sisters (Bea, Marge) and one brother (Paul), she was raised in the small town of Raymond, Washington. Dorothy graduated from Willamette University with a degree in English Literature. With a Library Sciences degree from the University of Washington she spent her life surrounded by books and loved ones.

Dorothy first saw Hugh Roberts at choir practice. She turned to a friend and told her that she was going to have a date with that boy. They married and had two pretty girls named Joyce and Linn (my mom). Hugh loved to fish and camp. Trips to the Duckabush River and Kalaloch became common summer events. Hugh passed away in 1965. Dorothy dated a couple men, but never had any interest in remarrying. My Grandfather was a barrel-chested Welshman. It's funny to see pictures of him and realize how much I look like him.

I know that somewhere Dorothy is walking by the ocean listening to the waves. I will always miss her and only wish that she could have met my son Dylan. He kind of looks like her.
